GAPSTM MAPPING – CREATING A VISION OF THE FUTURE
Description
This three day facilitated event is
where the power of the GAPStm program becomes
a reality to your agency. At your location, information
is gathered about a selected process (or several
processes, depending on the complexity) and this
information is charted so it is easy to follow based on
the GAPStm Mapping guidelines that you willl
earn. After analyzing the current state, improvements
are developed by the GAPStm Mapping team to
minimize the non-value added steps (AKA “waste”) as
learned in GAPStm 101/102. The impacts of
these potential improvements are used to create a future
vision of this process. The final step of the
event is to develop a detailed action plan (complete
with responsibilities and dates) to make this future
vision a reality. Also on thelast day, there is
typically a report out to other interested parties who
were not members of this GAPStm
Mapping team.
While these three days are intense, the work involved to create the envisioned future state (as documented in the action plan) is often less than originally conceived. The future state reflects a work environment where individual stress levels are decreased, customer satisfaction is increased, and all relevant metricss how significant improvement. The team typically ends the event energized and ready to make the changes necessary so they can begin enjoying the benefits of the future state vision which is now just over the horizon.

improvement opportunities within this process where
waste can be eliminated or reduced.
- Identification of best waste
reduction tools to use in this process.

envisioned benefits.
- Develop detailed action plan with assigned responsibilities and completion dates (in electronic format for future updating as required).
Who Should Attend?
The team should include
representatives who are very knowledgeable through their
actual performance of steps in the process being
examined. There also needs to be someone who has
decision making authority for this process. The team can
also include those who work closely with this process by
supplying input(internal suppliers) or by consuming the
output (internal customers). It will also be important
to have someone who is being groomed as an inside
facilitator for future GAPStm
Mapping events. We will assist you in determining the best mix of team members for success.
Session Instructor/Facilitator
The
instructor/facilitator for this event will be an
experienced practitioner of the GAPStm
